Community Manager Carita Varjonen is taking the lead at the SHIFT Business Festival and will become the CEO of SHIFT Events Oy, the organizer of SHIFT. The change follows an ownership arrangement completed on October 4, 2023, between Teknologiakiinteistöt and SHIFT Events, through which Teknologiakiinteistöt became the majority owner of the company with a 70 percent stake.
The previous CEO of SHIFT Events, Jutta Ruusunen, will continue working with SHIFT as the event’s Program Manager, and the Chairman of SHIFT ry, Pyry Kangas, will serve as the Customer Relationship Manager for SHIFT Events.
Varjonen has extensive experience in organizing large-scale events and has followed SHIFT closely as a partner for years. This year, she was responsible for the Best Party in the Science Park organized in connection with SHIFT, which also served as the official SHIFT evening party. Varjonen sees a lot of potential in SHIFT, but also identifies areas for improvement.

– Teknologiakiinteistöt has been a significant partner for SHIFT from the very beginning and one of its key enablers. We recognize the importance and potential of SHIFT at Teknologiakiinteistöt, and in the future, our goal is to use the event to increase the attractiveness of the Turku Science Park and the entire city of Turku. We want to change the image of SHIFT from a startup event to an event for all companies and expand its attendee base, Varjonen says.
In the future, SHIFT will be held in the heart of the Turku Science Park at Visitor and Innovation Center Joki. SHIFT will become part of the Teknologiakiinteistöt brand family and one of the events hosted at Joki.
– As we experienced this year, Joki and its surroundings provide a fantastic setting for SHIFT. SHIFT will be an essential part of Joki’s event activities and act as a glue that brings companies and communities together. Most importantly, however, is that SHIFT leaves a positive impression on its visitors and that it is seen as worth the time spent at the event.
