The Future of Turku Science Park

The development of the Turku campus and Turku Science Park is one of the spearhead projects set by the Turku City Council. The expansion of Turku Science Park towards the Itäharju industrial area will create an even more significant hub for urban expertise, innovation, mobility, and housing in the area.

The Kupittaa Tip partnership project envisions a vibrant city

The Kupittaa Tip partnership project launched in the Science Park area creates a vision for the future of the Kupittaa and Itäharju districts.

With the deck connecting Kupittaa and Itäharju, a lively hub of housing, services, education, and the corporate world will be built around the Kupittaa station. Through the Kupittaa Tip partnership project, an urban city center and Turku's second city center will be formed in Turku Science Park.

The vision of the Kupittaa Tip partnership project is to implement an area acting as an extension of the Science Park using a deck crossing Helsingintie, seamlessly connecting the Science Park to the eastern districts and acting as a hub for the region. A mixed service and urban structure creates versatile functions for the area and combines working life, education, and leisure into a coherent whole.

The vision for the Science Park sets the guidelines for development

The City of Turku's vision for the Science Park (Turku Science Park Masterplan 2050, published Dec 4, 2017) sets the guidelines for development over the coming decades. In the vision, the 90-hectare area of Itäharju is seen as a significant platform for growth, and the area as a whole is expected to be renewed by the middle of the century.

In addition to Turun Teknologiakiinteistöt, the cooperation has involved the City of Turku, local universities and universities of applied sciences, Turku Science Park Ltd, Finnish University Properties, the Hospital District of Southwest Finland, and the Turku Student Village Foundation.

A Developing Science Park

EduCity was completed in the Turku Science Park area in 2020, which, upon completion, brought the functions of the University of Applied Sciences together more centrally under one roof. LinkCity, designed next to EduCity, is estimated to be completed in 2025.

InfraCity was completed on the Itäharju side in 2022, which serves as the headquarters for Turku Energia.
