The office building InfraCity B, commissioned by Turun Teknologiakiinteistöt, was completed on schedule at the end of December. Moving into the property are Rejlers and Nordic Semiconductor.
InfraCity B, completed at Teollisuuskatu 40 in Itäharju, is the counterpart to InfraCity A, which was finished in 2021 and houses Turku Energia. With the approximately 4,000-square-meter InfraCity B, the buildings form a new landmark for the Turku Science Park expanding into Itäharju. The complex was designed by Sigge Arkkitehdit. InfraCity's A and B sections share a courtyard, lobby, parking garage, and lunch restaurant.
– It is wonderful to finally have InfraCity completed in its entirety. The project is now exactly as Sigge Arkkitehdit designed it: an integrated complex formed by a pair of buildings, says Miika Tuominen, Construction Director at Turun Teknologiakiinteistöt.
Construction of InfraCity began in the summer of 2022. The main contractor for the project was Rakennustoimisto Lundén, and project supervision was provided by Rakennuttajatoimisto HTJ and Granlund. The structures were designed by Sweco Finland Oy. The building's demanding building services were designed by Rejlers Finland Oy, with implementation by Calto Oy, AM-Sähkö Oy, and Proautomaatio Oy.
– The project was handed over to us ahead of schedule and as a zero-defect delivery. I am very pleased with the quality delivered by Lundén. The project is a success down to the last detail, and I believe the building's future users will also be satisfied with the new premises.
“The project was handed over to us ahead of schedule and as a zero-defect delivery.”
InfraCity was implemented in accordance with the Platinum level of the LEED v4 environmental certificate. Platinum is the highest level of the U.S.-based LEED environmental certification system. The certificate's requirements were taken into account in energy solutions and the use of sustainable building materials. InfraCity also features a focus on occupancy sensors and automatic lighting control. In addition, demand response for electricity is utilized, meaning the property can reduce its energy consumption during peak hours.
The Itäharju area is developing at a rapid pace. Teknologiakiinteistöt is currently building the GeneCity pharmaceutical factory for Biovian next to InfraCity, and construction of AkvaCity for Turku Region Water will begin in the spring at Teollisuuskatu 46. In addition, major zoning development projects are underway in the area.
– InfraCity serves as a spearhead that concretely demonstrates how an old industrial area is transforming into a future urban district where living, services, and workplaces are interconnected in a new way, concludes Tuominen.
