Working in the healthcare sector doesn't have to be a grind; it is also possible to work exactly as much as suits your life situation, as they know at Medikumppani, which operates in Werstas. The company moved to the Satumetsä section of Werstas in DataCity last spring, which also marked 20 years since Medikumppani was founded. The anniversary year has been celebrated in many ways at the new location. We got a chance to hear the latest news from Medikumppani's CEO Teija Koskinen.
How have you enjoyed your time in the Science Park and Werstas?
– Thanks for asking, we like being in the area! There are ten of us employees here in Turku, but we are rarely all at the office at the same time. We moved here from the center of Turku, and I think we have fit into the science park community well, says Koskinen.
“Werstas and its services suit us perfectly.”
Medikumppani celebrated its anniversary last year, as the company marked 20 years as a player in the recruitment sector.
– We are proud to be involved in supporting Finnish healthcare and we place employees all over the country. We act as a bridge-builder between employees and employers, our clients, offering employment solutions that fulfill the wishes of both. We free up our clients' time for their core tasks when we support them in recruitment, says Koskinen.

Flexible work opportunities and career paths
Medikumppani mainly places doctors and dentists for the public and private sectors. Three years ago, the company also started recruiting nurses, and now it also places bioanalysts as a new professional group for the needs of laboratories and pharmaceutical companies.
There is a lot of talk about the challenges of temporary work, and they are also recognized at Medikumppani. The company offers long-term employment relationships lasting over 2 weeks, allowing temporary employees to genuinely support the client's work community in their everyday needs. More and more people consider it important to have more energy for their free time in addition to work.
– We have worked hard to ensure that our employees enjoy their work. Resourcing for everyday life benefits everyone when possibilities for flexibility are available. In practice, this could mean, for example, part-time work as a doctor or nurse according to the needs of one's life situation. Our slogan “Work that fits your life” describes our actions perfectly, I think, says Koskinen.
Community and networking opportunities in the Science Park
The location of the office in the Science Park area is considered good, as it is surrounded by the university hospital as well as the university and university of applied sciences, where the future workforce is also trained for healthcare.
– Pharmaceutical research companies also complement this entity, as we employ experts for them as well, says Koskinen.
Medikumppani also wants to be visible among students, and company representatives are a familiar sight at higher education recruitment events. Healthcare industry events and trade fairs are also important for brand awareness.
In Werstas, community is seen in many ways: in the everyday routine of asking office neighbors for news in the work café, and on a larger scale in the events of the entire science park community.
– Over a cup of coffee or tea, it's nice to see others working here too. Last year, we got to enjoy, among other things, the Science Park's May Day donuts, the opening of the newest Werstas Kalevala, and the evening parties of the SHIFT Business Festival, recalls Koskinen.
During its 20th anniversary year, Medikumppani participated in the HUMANPOWER – The Most Human-Centric Organization of the Year competition, where it placed among the top ten. The company is also entering the coming year with excitement, as new services are on the way.
– We are really proud to have been among the ten best human-centric organizations. The year that has begun also offers new things to look forward to, as we are offering new training for healthcare personnel in both patient encounters and entrepreneurship, concludes Koskinen.
