Topping-out ceremony celebrated at GeneCity

Construction of GeneCity in Itäharju has proceeded according to plan, and the building's topping-out ceremony was held on Wednesday, May 23.

The topping-out ceremony began with a speech by Miika Tuominen, who is responsible for the construction of GeneCity at Turun Teknologiakiinteistöt. He emphasized that it is great to be involved in implementing such a significant project for Turku and the Science Park. Next, Biovian CEO Antti Nieminen brought his greetings, providing background on Biovian's over 20-year company history to this day and thanking the project parties for their good cooperation. Finally, Janne Lundén from Rakennustoimisto Lundén brought the contractor's greetings and thanked for the trust in such a special construction project. Employees, designers, or supervisors did not want to give speeches at the event this time. After the speeches, salmon soup with archipelago bread and strawberry cream cake were served.

It is great to be involved in implementing such a significant project for Turku and the Science Park.

GeneCity is a pharmaceutical factory that Teknologiakiinteistöt is building for the biological drug contract manufacturer Biovian Oy.

The approximately 6,300 square meter GeneCity is being built in Itäharju at Teollisuuskatu 42. The project includes a single-story production facility, lobby and office spaces located on three floors, as well as social, storage, and auxiliary spaces in the building's basement. The building will be completed by the end of 2024.

The architectural design for GeneCity has been done by architectural firm Sarc+Sigge. The building's cleanroom has been designed by Elomatic Solutions Oy, which is also responsible for the implementation of the space. Rakennustoimisto Lundén Oy acts as the contractor for the project. The building is being implemented according to the LEED v4 Platinum level, which means that the property's environmental impact and energy consumption are minimized throughout its entire life cycle.

After lunch, the topping-out ceremony guests had the opportunity to take a tour of the GeneCity construction site. DJ Pikkumiska, who was responsible for the music, brought atmosphere to the event.
