Sometimes needs change, and you find yourself requiring different things from your office space than before. This is what happened to Business Turku, which moved to new premises on the ground floor of ElectroCity at the beginning of October.
The Turku region development company Business Turku, which offers services for company growth and development, wanted to streamline its premises and move from the fourth floor of ICT-City closer to its customers. The solution was found in an office space of just under 800 square meters that became vacant in SparkUp on the ground floor of ElectroCity.
– Our old space was traditional and too large for our 51 employees. It had corridors and rooms as well as a lot of unused space, because many work remotely, says Tapani Mylly, Marketing Director at Business Turku.

The new Business Turku office is divided into two floors, with the upper floor reserved for staff use. The ground floor features customer space, a café, meeting rooms, and a high event space with an impressive LED wall. The event space is used for both client events and internal gatherings, and it is also possible for Business Turku staff to book it for their own use outside working hours.
– The large screen in the event space is good, and the space is functional. Overall, the whole ground floor is very comfortable; it brings people together and offers an opportunity to catch up. Some of our employees also work in the café, and I, too, often enjoy sitting there with my laptop.

The second floor of the office features open-plan space, 3–4 person offices, and a couple of larger rooms. Business Turku employees do not have their own workstations, which fits well with the everyday lives of employees doing hybrid work.
– We are required to be at the office 1–2 days a week, but we generally enjoy being here quite a lot. We don't have any specific fixed office days, although for meetings, it is expected that people attend in person.
At Business Turku, they have been very satisfied with the move.
– The best thing about the new space is the ground floor café. It is airy and features a well-functioning kitchen with an island. People enjoy being in the kitchen, and it leads to encounters that might not otherwise happen. Personally, I especially like the fact that the new space offers different types of areas, for example for concentration, and I can change places during the day depending on my mood.
