Development and production facilities are being renovated in the VitaCity building at Biolinja 2 for Turku-based Bonalive Biomaterials Oy. Bonalive Biomaterials is a health technology company founded in 2009 that develops and manufactures bioactive glass implanted into the human body, used to replace bone and treat infections.

Bonalive Biomaterials is leasing approximately 2,400 square meters in VitaCity under a long-term lease agreement. The two-story building, completed in 2002, was originally designed as a research and development facility and is now being modified to meet the needs of Bonalive Biomaterials. The most significant changes involve the cleanrooms, in addition to which the property's office spaces are being renovated into a multi-space office environment. The changes will not affect the building's facade. The renovation is being carried out by Rakennustoimisto Lundén Oy and Calto Oy. Demolition work on the site is already underway, and the project will be completed at the turn of the year.

“With the new facilities, we will be able to meet the growing demand in the global infection market.”

Bonalive Biomaterials will move into its new facilities in early 2025. The company, which employs 40 people, currently operates in locations including ICT-City and IndustryCity, and has subsidiaries in Germany, Italy, and the United States.

“With the new facilities, it will be possible to significantly increase our production volume, and we will be better able to meet the growing demand in the global infection market. Bringing the manufacturing, testing, innovation, and quality assurance of bone substitute and infection solution products under one roof will also make our operations more efficient. Our goal is to promote the transition to sustainable infection solutions, and in the future, we see our products enabling a world where infections are treated without antibiotics,” says Heidi Rantala, CEO of Bonalive Biomaterials.

At Teknologiakiinteistöt, the project is seen as a significant continuation of the development of the Science Park, helping to increase the number of innovation actors and jobs in the area.

“We are happy to be able to help provide facilities for an innovative company that is creating the product of the future,” says Mikko Lehtinen, CEO of Teknologiakiinteistöt.

KOy VitaCity is owned by Turun Teknologiakiinteistöt (50%), Ella Kodit Oy, and Waiwela Oy.
