What is the best part about working in lobby services at Teknologiakiinteistöt, and what skills are useful in the role?
Two new people started in Teknologiakiinteistöt's lobby services towards the end of last year, when Anette Ahonen and Lauri Tiainen joined the company. Ahonen's workstation is in BioCity, while Tiainen manages the lobby services in InfraCity.
– I first heard about Teknologiakiinteistöt when my mother saw an ad on Facebook saying that Teknologiakiinteistöt was looking for service specialists for their lobby services. The position sounded interesting and the tasks varied, so I sent in my application right away and I haven't regretted it for a single day, Ahonen says enthusiastically.
Lauri Tiainen spotted the job advertisement while working abroad.
– I found out about the opening while I was still working in crisis management in Somalia and planning my next moves. I had actually accidentally remained on Teknologiakiinteistöt's mailing list because I had previously attended the opening of an art exhibition in the parking garage.
For Ahonen, Teknologiakiinteistöt is her first permanent job, as she graduated from Turku Vocational Institute as a business graduate in spring 2022. Tiainen, on the other hand, is finishing his history studies at the University of Turku while working.
“I have always known that I want to work in customer service and I enjoy being with customers.”
In lobby services, days are filled with advising and guiding people, answering emails and phone calls, and assisting colleagues. The experience gained from previous jobs has proven useful for both Ahonen and Tiainen.
– I have always known that I want to work in customer service and I enjoy being with customers. During my student years, I worked in a café and learned a lot about interaction and people skills there, which is also useful in the BioCity lobby service. The best part of my job is my colleagues and the varied workdays. You never know what the day will bring, says Ahonen.
– People-oriented work is my strength. In lobby services, I can focus on creating a pleasant atmosphere and smooth encounters. Days are often filled with surprising situations and meetings. That is why the job requires good stress tolerance and the ability to work with different kinds of people. The critical information retrieval skills from my history studies and the experiences from the unstable and changing work environment in crisis management have given me a good foundation for solving various situations, concludes Tiainen.
