Turun Teknologiakiinteistöt has acquired the Arken property located at Tehtaankatu 2 from the Stiftelsen för Åbo Akademi foundation. Arken consists of 13 buildings located in the block bordered by Piispankatu, Tehtaankatu and Kasarmikatu in Turun Tiedepuisto. The total area of the building complex is just over 15,000 square meters.
Arken is leased to Åbo Akademi for 20 years, and the premises house the Faculty of Arts. The buildings include teaching facilities, offices, a library, and an underground parking garage with 59 spaces. The property is situated on a freehold plot of approximately 10,600 square meters. The purchase price of the property was approximately 43 million euros.
Arken has a long history, and the site with its buildings was in industrial use during the 19th and 20th centuries. The buildings in the block were constructed between 1850 and 1930 and represent a valuable piece of Finnish industrial architectural history.
Stiftelsen för Åbo Akademi carried out extensive renovations on the buildings between 2001 and 2004, when all buildings on the site were converted into teaching and office spaces, and additional new buildings were constructed on the site. The original buildings in the complex are protected.
