Is this Finland's finest pharmaceutical plant?

Construction of the GeneCity pharmaceutical plant, delivered by Turun Teknologiakiinteistöt for 3PBiovian, was completed at the end of December. In January, the first employees are already moving into the stunning facilities.

What does Finland's finest pharmaceutical plant look like? Like GeneCity, built in Itäharju, Turku – at least if you ask Miika Tuominen, Construction Manager at Turun Teknologiakiinteistöt. And it’s no wonder, as the three-story GeneCity is as beautiful as a jewel, both understated and striking, located near Helsinginkatu on Teollisuuskatu.

– GeneCity continues the design language of InfraCity and acts as a gateway building when arriving in Turku from the direction of Helsinki. It is perfectly suited for this purpose, as I would dare to claim that it is Finland's finest pharmaceutical plant, Tuominen praises.

The building was designed by the renowned architectural firm Sarc + Sigge, who were also behind InfraCity. Behind the facade of glass and ceramic tiles are office spaces spread across three floors, and during the spring, a cleanroom will be built there, forming the heart of the property for the manufacturing of biological medicines.

– The actual construction project was completed on schedule and within budget on December 31st. Now, work continues with the implementation of the cleanrooms. The project will be completed in the spring, after which the user will continue the construction of the pharmaceutical plant’s process technology.

The interior of GeneCity features extensive use of oak veneer and neutral color tones. The lobby on the ground floor is dominated by floor-to-ceiling windows, and the sophisticated atmosphere is created by porcelain tiles that mirror the tones of natural stone. Warmth is brought to the space by the oak veneer used on interior walls and cabinets. A three-dimensional acoustic wall glowing in various shades of blue serves as an eye-catcher in the space.

“The level of detail and quality of workmanship in this building are truly high.”

The office spaces on the second and third floors offer extensive views over Turku, as the nearest buildings are relatively far away on the other side of Helsinginkatu. The bright spaces are connected by a staircase, which increases a sense of community and spontaneous encounters between people.

– The level of detail and quality of workmanship in this building are truly high. The whole is crowned by facade lighting solutions that change according to weather conditions.
