The latest addition to the lunch options in Turku Science Park is the renowned Fizza pizza vending machine. Conveniently located between ElectroCity and BioCity, the pizza vending machine drew Science Park residents in at lunchtime to enjoy fresh, oven-baked pizza. We explored Fizza at lunchtime together with Mika Vilkki, founder of Fizza in the Turku region. What kind of addition does Fizza bring to the Science Park?
– The Science Park is an ideal location for Fizza, as the machine is situated at a busy traffic hub. The location is especially attractive at lunchtime and late in the evening, serving the area's residents, students, and those working mobile night shifts, says Mika Vilkki.
You can get a freshly baked pizza straight from the oven in three minutes. You can also pick up a pizza to bake at home in as little as half a minute.
The concept of a pizza vending machine originated in France and was brought to Finland in 2021. The first Fizza machines in the Turku area appeared in Kaarina in the summer of 2023.
– The Fizza machine in Kaarina is conveniently located along the route for summer cottage traffic heading towards the archipelago, which was reflected in pizza sales, especially during the summer. The Science Park Fizza is the fourth machine in the Turku region. In addition to these, Fizza is also located in Raisio and Vähäheikkilä, says Vilkki.
Fizza also has expansion plans in the Turku area, with the goal of having around twenty machines in the Turku region in the future.
Quality pizza for every taste
The Fizza machine offers a wide selection of different pizzas, and special dietary needs are also taken into account. Customers have the option to choose a gluten-free or vegan option, and positive feedback has been received especially for the gluten-free pizza.
In the machine, pizzas are kept chilled, from where they move to the pizza oven to be baked upon ordering.
– Our pre-baked pizzas are prepared right next to the Science Park in Itäharju. The pizzas are kept chilled in the machine, and we strive to ensure that the machine always has a comprehensive selection for every taste, adds Vilkki.
Easy ordering with the Fizza app
You can order a pizza directly from the machine's screen, and ordering in advance is also possible using the Fizza app. App users can ensure their desired pizza is available by checking the machine's pizza stock and reserving their choice. When ordering via the app, the pizza is ready for pickup at the machine for 7 hours.
– You can also check the machine's pizza stock and reserve your favorite pizza via the app. Especially for special diets, this is a popular feature that allows customers to ensure the pizza they want is available.
When reserving via the app, you also receive a code with every pizza that makes every tenth pizza free.
